Introduction

The earl of Spackleberg is dying. Clormon Seegler, the local alchemist, needs bloodberries to concoct a cure. Three villagers set out, but none returned. The residents offer a 100s purse and a potion of the heroes' choosing for their help. Clormon tells the heroes he needs 12 bloodberries, from the far side of Mudmere, and warns them not to go near the ruined castle because it's too dangerous — despite all the rumors of treasure. He assists by giving the heroes a smoke bomb, 2 health potions, and a basket (the missing villagers took all his best potions).


Locations

Spit Toad

STR 12, DEX 12, WIL 3, 3hp, d6 Bite, Jump.

Spit: DEX Save or become Blinded until you spend an action to clear your eyes.

Swallow: DEX Save or be swallowed whole, taking d6 Acid Damage at the start of each turn.

Woart (dead)

Close inspection reveals that his only wound is a cut on his thumb.

Gabby the Gobbo

Goblin, offers to lower bridge for goods thrown across, but reneges (not strong enough). Gabby's pet giant rat, carries one junk item in its mouth.

Watchtower

The drawbridge mechanism is rusted and requires a STR Save to budge. Everything on the Random Junk Table that isn't on the dead villagers or carried by Maurice is stashed here (Gabby's hoard).

Crocodiles

Attack any heroes in water.

Ruined Bridge

While crossing, DEX Save to not fall down into the crocodile-infested moat.

Brontosaurus

Ignores heroes unless provoked.

Bloodberry Grove

Heroes not wearing gloves suffer d4 Damage for every handful (d6) of berries picked (12 are needed). Each bloodberry eaten restores 1 STR.

Byrne (dead)

3-headed Hydra

STR 18, DEX 12, Armour 1, 15hp, 3d8 Bite (can target multiple melee opponents).

Relentless: the Hydra does not need to make Critical Damage Saves.

Multi-headed: Hydra bites for a number of d8 dice equal to its current amount of heads. When Hydra loses 5+ STR in one turn, one of its heads is cut off. If the wound is not cauterized, Hydra restores d6 STR on the next turn, and grows two new heads on the turn after that.

Waist-Deep Shallows

The characters can cross here without crocodiles attacking, but pick up d4 giant leeches per character along the way.

Giant Centipedes

Nest of 2d3 giant centipedes STR 5, DEX 14, WIL 3, Armour 1, 1hp, d4 Bite. If the bite reduces STR score, the target suffers 1 DEX Loss from venom.

Thacker (dead)

Treasure chest (rotten)

Quicksand

Looks like an unusually smooth area of fine sand. Unaware victims start knee deep. DEX Save to escape. Each failed DEX Save escalates entrapment: Knees → Waist → Chest → Neck → Head. The characters can hold breathItDR, p.33 for STR/5 turns (round up). Turns spent on strenuous tasks count for two. Afterwards take d6 Damage per turn not breathing.


Items

Deadly Poison

This dark oily liquid deals d6 STR Loss prompting a Critical Damage Save if consumed. On a failed Save, the consumer dies. When applied to a suitable weapon or a set of projectiles, Critical Damage rolls from it are made at Disadvantage until the next Rest.ItDR, p.21

Fire Bomb

Warm red vial. When thrown, d8 Fire Damage in small area.

Frost Bomb

Cold blue vial. When thrown, d8 Cold Damage in small area.

Health Potion

The vial of sparkling red liquid restores d6 STR Loss.ItDR, p.21

Insect Repellant

Brownish-gray cream. Keeps insects away if applied.

Smoke Bomb

Cloudy gray vial. Retreat without DEX Save.

6 wild boar STR 13, DEX 11, WIL 5, 4hp, d6 Tusks. Charge: (once per combat) DEX Save or take d8 Damage.
7 river snake DEX 18, WIL 3, 5hp, d6 Poisonous Bite: if bite reduces your STR score, lose d4 DEX as well.
8 giant spider STR 14, DEX 16, WIL 4, 4hp, d6 Bite. If the bite reduces STR score, the target suffers d4 DEX Loss from venom.
9 giant firefly STR 7, DEX 14, 3hp, d6 Electric shock ignoring Armour.
10 giant owl 6hp, d8 Claws. Dive: first turn's attack is Enhanced.
11 fish man STR 15, DEX 13, WIL 7, 5hp, spear (d6).
12 giant slug STR 15, DEX 5, WIL 3, d4 Spit. If the bite reduces STR score, the target suffers d6 DEX Loss from poison.
