ItDR conversion: A Darkness from the Stars (by Sadie Lowry)

The Source

A Darkness from the Stars1 — a mystical Eberron adventure by Sadie Lowry. One of the adventures that were used to playtest Into the Dungeon: Revived.


The Conversion

Only the parts that need to be adjusted are listed here.

Coin conversion: 1gp = 1s; 100gp = 1g.

Ignore all checks, replacing with the appropriate ItDR rules instead. For example:

Avrae (Arcane Specialist)

WIL 13, 5hp, Armour 1 (light), mace (d6/d8).

Achuak (Mathematician)

DEX 14, WIL 11, 13hp, Armour 1 (Shield Spell), two poisoned daggers (2d6, d6 DEX Loss on Damage to STR - once per dagger).

Thilinwe (Historical Expert)

Ildaeva (Intern)

STR 11, DEX 12, WIL 16, 2hp, Armour 1 (light), sword (d6/d8), brooch.

Ilda's Brooch: A gleaming dark opal nested in white metal, reflecting many colors. When worn, the wearer has Advantage on Saves against charm and fear.

The Path to the Observatory

Suggested Challenges:

Ice Mephit

STR 7, DEX 13, WIL 12, 6hp, 2d4 Claws.

False Appearance: While motionless, indistinguishable from a shard of ice.

Frost Breath: d4 Damage in a small cone. 1-in-6 chance to recharge next turn.

Death Burst: When dying, explodes in a burst of jagged ice, dealing d6 Blast damage to all adjacent.

The Telescope

Orrery Spheres

Shaped like the moons, these prismatic spheres can be used to focus Spells and empower them for d6 bonus Damage. They may be used d4 times before they shatter, causing the user to take the damage instead.


The Jagged Echoes

Yeti

STR 18, DEX 14, 6hp, Armour 1, 2d6 Claws, d8 Stalagmite Throw.

Grapple: pass a DEX Save or be Restrained and take d8 Damage now and on each subsequent turn until a successful STR or DEX Save.

Frightening Gaze: when Yeti presents itself andgazes upon its opponents, everyone must succeed on a WIL Save or be Stunned for the next turn.

Anti-Gravity Room

Floating golden stars

While navigating around a star, succeed on a DEX Save or the star explodes, dealing d8 Blast Damage.

The Voice

To experience the effect, the character must fail a WIL Save.


Treasure Room

A couple of floating stars are located near the entrance and must be navigated around as described above.

Rug of Smothering

STR 17, DEX 14, WIL 1, 6hp, ignores Critical Damage.

Smother: a target is Restrained, Blinded and suffocating, taking d6 Damage at the start of target's turn. STR Save to escape as an action. The Damage dealt to the Rug is divided between it and captured target.

Treasure

Moonbeam (2nd Circle Spell)

A beam of unnatural silvery light illuminates a small area, causing d6 Damage on a failed STR Save to anyone inside. Shapeshifters Save at a Disadvantage, revert to their original form on a failed Save, and cannot change shape before leaving this area of light. Each turn, as an action, you can move the beam to point at a new location in your vicinity.


The Grand Hall

Moon Dragon

STR 18, WIL 12, 16hp, Armour 3, 2d6 Wings, Advantage on Saves from magic, first Critical Damage is ignored but disables Moon Phases, second Critical Damage disintegrates the Dragon.

Moonlight Blast: d8 Damage in a large cone. 2-in-6 chance to recharge next turn.

Moon Phase: at the start of its turn, the Dragon changes the moon phase in the following order:
1) Full Moon. Gravity reverses, pulling all creatures toward the ceiling, which is covered in stalactites, dealing d6 Damage to all who fell.
2) Half Moon. Platforms rise from the floor toward the ceiling, separating the party. Jumping between platforms requires a DEX Save. On a failed save, the characters fall down, suffering d6 Damage.
3) Crescent Moon. Gravity increases, halving the movement, and making manoeuvres impossible.
4) New Moon. The room is cast into complete darkness effectively blinding the characters.
